Gwent serious organised crime

Help target and prevent serious organised crime carried out by criminal gangs.

Our campaign highlights the impact that these gangs have on our businesses, communities, and the most vulnerable people within them - particularly young people. 

Types of activities that gangs are involved in include class A drug dealing, child criminal exploitation, use of weapons and violence and human trafficking. Other indicators of serious organised crime could be money laundering or people living beyond their means from the proceeds of crime.

We are asking Newport residents to be alert to the activities of organised crime groups and report any information on serious organised crime through us, 100% anonymously.
  Last year, we saw an 83% increase in reports about Newport during our campaign. Residents demonstrated how they are looking out for the most vulnerable, including those at risk of exploitation but also being determined to speak out against criminals to make their city safer.  

“We’re helping to make communities aware of serious organised crime and how important their information is in helping to tackle it. We want them to feel confident that they can speak to us 100% anonymously and we’ll pass their information on safely.”

As well as this campaign, we will be promoting our youth service Fearless with teenagers in schools and youth groups to empower them to speak up about crime and stay safe.

This campaign is a part of wider programme with Gwent Police, Newport Council and other charities to help prevent serious organised crime.

 “We want to prevent these crimes occurring in the first place through education and engagement with the public. We understand that nobody knows their streets better than the residents that live there. They see what goes on day to day, they see suspicious activity, they see when something is not quite right.
