Despite slavery being abolished over 150 years ago, it is believed that there are more people enslaved today than at any time in our history. Sadly, modern day slavery is on our doorstep, with many victims, often eastern European women, being forced into prostitution.   • Does the person have any signs of physical abuse, such as cigarette burns or tattoos indicating ownership?
  • Is the person allowed to keep the money they make? A trafficked sex worker will have restricted or no access to earnings
  • Is there any evidence that the person has been forced, intimidated or coerced into providing sexual services?
  • Does the person have an English vocabulary of only sexualised words?
  • Are there any signs the person is experiencing emotional trauma as a result of the work they are doing?
  • Males seen coming and going from properties any hour of the day but mostly noticed in daytime hours.
  • Waste seen/found in bins - includes mattress wrappers, condoms, baby wipes, Viagra packaging.
  • Suspected drug dealing from the address.
  • Females inside the address that don't seem to come enter or exit very often.
  • Females inside the dress in skimpy clothing/underwear.
  • People entering addresses at the rear of the property.
  • Properties in densely populated areas, HMOs, diverse populations (various nationalities/ethnicities so the property ‘blends in’)
  • Large amounts of cash seen.
  • Receipts for Western Union seen.
  • Do the letterbox or any doors of the property appear to have been sealed from inside?
  • Do the people potentially selling sex also sleep on the premises? Brothels are not normally used as accommodation for sex workers
  • Are the people potentially selling sex being moved between suspected brothels?
  • Full address details
    • Do you know of more than one address being used?
    • Are there any children at the address? Do they attend school?
    • Are there any homely decorations, items etc. since they ‘moved in’?
  • Descriptions of the women involved, e.g. age, ethnicity
    • Do they leave the property at regular times each week?
    • Is there more than one person ‘living’ at the address?
  • Description of a person who may be controlling the women
    • Person’s or people’s: gender, age, distinguishing features (tattoos?), ethnicity
    • Transport: car make, model and registration
    • Do the controllers ‘manage’ more than one home?
      • Do you have the other address details?
  • Timings of comings and goings
    • Are there any regular ‘visitors’?
      • Gather descriptions of these visitors, e.g. gender, age, ethnicity
      • Car make, model and registrations
      • Where do visitors usually park? Is there any CCTV?
  • Do you suspect drug dealing could also be happening?
    • Do you have descriptions of those who you are dealing or collecting drugs?
    • Are any children involved?
