Wales modern slavery awareness

Turning the tide on trafficking

We are working with our partners and communities across Wales to tackle modern slavery together.
This campaign highlights the trafficking of people, drugs and weapons across the Welsh coast and borders, as well as the increasing sexual exploitation of trafficked women. Your anonymous information is vital to help get vulnerable people to safety and keep drugs and weapons off our streets.

Many people want to protect their family and community, but fear the criminals they'd like to report. We are not the police, we are a charity that is here to listen.

We are only interested in what you know - not who you are.

We do not take any personal information, like a name or address or a phone number.

We do not track, record or trace your computer or telephone call.

We are here 24 hours a day, everyday.

Criminal gangs use borders to traffick people, class A drugs and weapons

If you see anyone acting suspiciously on our coastline or ports, please tell us 100% anonymously to turn the tide on trafficking.  A small piece of information could be vital, such as descriptions of vehicles (including trucks) and boats (such as boat name).
  • Look for people or vehicles / boats that seem odd or out of place.
  • In the case of trafficked humans, if a person looks distraught and not free to leave someone else's side. In addition, look for someone who seems depressed, anxious, fearful, or submissive.
  • Anything that seems out of place, unusual or just doesn’t seem to fit in with everyday life. An example is a vehicle driving around at odd times of the day or night.
  • A suspicious person is either one who is exhibiting suspicious behavior, or who is in an area or doing something that is not normal.
Signs which could indicate women are being trafficked for sexual exploitation:
  • Multiple female foreign nationals living at an address, being escorted to and from the premises
  • Frequent male visitors and different vehicles, day and night, that don’t stay for long
  • Curtains are always closed and a door-entry security camera may be in use
  • Individuals appear scared and show signs of physical abuse, including bruising, scarring and cigarette burns
  • Individuals may be closely guarded; transported to and from clients
  • Individuals may have restricted or no access to their earnings
Hotel & Guest Houses
The young women or men are often brought into the hotel or rental property by a male who is controlling them and may speak to them in a foreign language. They may look nervous, be thin and show signs of abuse.

They may be dropped off and picked up in a minibus or car driven by male with other women also in the vehicle.

People dressed in a way that doesn’t fit with the weather or don’t seem to know their whereabouts.

Multiple people being escorted to a room one at a time.

Guests who insist on little or no housekeeping.

Signs that someone might be a victim of modern slavery include:

  • Showing signs of injury, abuse and malnourishment
  • They look unkempt, are often in the same clothing and have poor hygiene
  • Appearing to be under the control and influence of others
  • Living in cramped, dirty, overcrowded accommodation
  • They have no access or control of their passport or identity documents
  • Appearing scared, avoiding eye contact, and being untrusting
  • They’re collected very early and/or returned late at night on a regular basis
  • May have inappropriate clothing for the work they are performing, and/or a lack of safety equipment
  • May be isolated from the local community and their family
  • They travel only with other workers
