Raising the roof in Weston-super-Mare

Raising the roof in Weston-super-Mare

Talented 9 and 10 year olds took to the stage for the 2018 ‘What Would You Do?’ showcase at the Weston Playhouse

Yet again the roof was raised as Weston-super-Mare's amazing and talented 9 and 10 year old children took to the stage for the 2018 ‘What Would You Do?’ showcase at the Weston Playhouse  on Tuesday 26th June 2018, in front of almost 350 family, friends , teachers and VIPs.

This was a celebration of their learning over the last few months through a creative programme commissioned by Crimestoppers in the West Country Committee led by Chair Peter Anderson and delivered by arts provider ‘Unique Voice’.

The programme has given the children a powerful voice about how they feel about crime in their communities. Through drama they have explored healthy relationships, hate crime and diversity, internet crime, knife crime and how to speak up about crime focusing on reporting to Crimestoppers with their very own Detective Sam Stopper!

The programme is in its 4th year and only happens because of generous funding from partners and trusts. This year’s programme  has been part funded  by the ‘Percy Hoskins Trust’,  fundraising by our committee and several other generous funding donations.

It  aims to raise awareness of Crimestoppers to a wider communities of the schools involved through the audience at the theatre and the subsequent film viewing. In 2017 reports to Crimestoppers rose by 46% in the areas that WWYD worked in during the following months.

Our thanks to all our supporters  and volunteer committee members who generously gave their evening to help.

Weston-super-Mare  schools taking part were: Milton Park Primary, Walliscote Primary , Windwhistle Primary and Bournville Primary.
