Tackling modern slavery in Sussex

We’ve launched a campaign to help people in Sussex ‘Spot The Signs’ of slavery, in a bid to tackle this growing issue.
Modern day slavery takes a variety of forms, many of which operate openly in public places. Whilst anyone can become a victim of this crime, it predominantly affects vulnerable people and immigrant populations with a bias towards industries such as car washes, nail bars and agriculture.
Crimestoppers has worked with the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) to identify common signs of slavery that victims of abuse share, and it is these that Crimestoppers is promoting in a bid to highlight this issue and encourage people to report suspicions.
Our extensive language translation service, whether it's our live telephone service or online information form translation, enables communities to contact us even when English is not their first language.
The UK Modern Slavery Helpline is available 24/7 to offer confidential, advice and support for any victim, statutory agency, business, or member of the public regarding modern slavery suspicions or concerns. Trained helpline advisers are available to discuss potential signs of modern slavery and options for callers or victims in need. You can call free at 08000 121 700 or contact them online at www.modernslaveryhelpline.org/.
If you have any information, on modern slavery or any other crimes, please contact us 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through our Anonymous Online Form, safe in the knowledge that you will never have to give a police statement or go to court.

“We want to reassure victims that modern day slavery is something that is taken extremely seriously in this country, and make it clear to perpetrators that they will be found and prosecuted.
“Exploiting someone for their labour, forcing them to work, using people as commodities – these practices are abhorrent and we need the public’s help to stamp it out. Crimestoppers’ support will be invaluable in giving people the confidence to report their concerns.”
