Meat cleaver attacker wanted after couple assaulted in Birmingham street

We are offering a reward of up to £3,000 for information on the whereabouts of Darren Martin, who is wanted in connection with an assault that saw a man and woman attacked with a meat cleaver.
The incident occurred on Friday August 3rd between 7.10pm and 7.30pm on Banbury Road in Birmingham City Centre, when an argument between the victim, Matthew Smith, and Martin occurred.
The 27-year-old offender is alleged to have then taken a meat cleaver from his bag and struck Smith on his arm, causing life changing injuries.
Martin is then alleged to have continued to assault a female with the same weapon, causing her minor injuries.
We are now offering the reward of up to £3,000 for information that leads to the arrest of Darren Martin.
Dave Hunter, Head of Operations for Crimestoppers, said: “This was an attack that has left an innocent man with life changing injuries, and the vicious nature of it highlights how callous the offender is.
We appreciate that Darren Martin is a dangerous individual and for that reason you might be reluctant to speak to the police, but please rest assured that Crimestoppers is here for you.
“Our charity takes information 100% anonymously. Always. No-one will know you contacted us, and it could be your information that makes the difference. So please, contact us and be an ambassador for your community.”
