Wanted: Good Samaritans to help keep their community safe by volunteering

We’re looking for Good Samaritans who want to help keep their community safe by joining their local volunteer committee in order to carry out vital fundraising and campaign activity
Our Northamptonshire committee is looking for like-minded individuals to help continue the ongoing work in the area to reduce crime, whether that be through a campaign on arson, for instance, or to raise valuable funds for the distribution of crime prevention advice.
Between April 2018 and January 2019, Crimestoppers received 1,557 calls relating to 1,970 different offences in Northamptonshire. That’s an increase of 166 calls compared to the same period the previous year, and our committee certainly plays a part in that with their awareness raising and work in the county.
We at Crimestoppers celebrated our 30th anniversary as a charity last year, and we have around 400 volunteers across the country who have a wealth of expertise – from marketing and campaign, to fundraising and social media.
But enthusiasm and care for the community is the most important thing of all. We’re interested in those who might have good connections in the local area, have a good knowledge of particular parts of Northamptonshire, or simply want to dedicate some time to a good cause. Volunteers play a vital part in helping spread the Crimestoppers message to all the corners of the county, and we’re hoping that local people will sign up and join our committee.
Shaun Johnson, chair of the Northamptonshire volunteer committee, said:
“Crimestoppers in Northamptonshire is a friendly, vibrant and committed team of volunteers who are proud to support the charity. Over the past few years we have engaged in a variety of initiatives, working on estates to reduce arson, associated violent crime and anti-social behaviour. We have supported Northamptonshire’s County Schools Challenge and have vigorously promoted the Crimestoppers and ‘Fearless’ brand.
“We are really keen to expand our team with more committed volunteers using their skills and knowledge to promote the Crimestoppers brand, so why not come along and meet the team.”
Lydia Patsalides, East Midlands Regional Manager for Crimestoppers, added: “Being a volunteer with our charity doesn’t have to be time-consuming; even a few hours a month makes a difference.
“If you feel you have the necessary skills or experience that could aid our desire to make communities safer, we’d love to hear from you. Our Northamptonshire committee are a friendly bunch, and would value your time and dedication.”
