Local community asked to speak up about those responsible for Asian Gold theft

We've launched a new campaign across Kent, asking the local community for information about those who might be involved with the theft of Asian Gold.
Asian Gold can be a particular target as it tends to be higher quality. Latest figures show that there were nearly 90 incidents of Asian Gold theft across Kent, worth around £1.6 million. Kent is in the top five UK areas for high value Asian Gold theft*.
We are asking local people to speak up if they have information about those who may have stolen or are known to be selling these valuable items.
We are also giving advice for people to take care of their belongings by following some simple steps:
- Keep all jewellery and other valuables in a safety deposit box – speak to your local bank to find out what is available.
- Keep high-value gold and jewellery at home and if preferred, in a good quality safe which complies with official insurance rating standards and their requirements on fitting.
- Consider keeping jewellery hidden (particularly during wedding season and religious holidays) and be discreet when wearing it in public until you get to the venue.
- Be extra vigilant around religious holidays, festivals and weddings by being aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious behaviour.
- Ensure all jewellery is digitally recorded and your insurance is up to date with all jewellery or valuables covered.
“Gold theft can be extremely upsetting for victims. The jewellery being stolen is often of huge sentimental value and has been passed down through generations.
“Please speak up about those targeting Asian Gold and be an ambassador for our community. You can always do the right thing by contacting Crimestoppers 100% anonymously. I can promise that nobody will know you contacted us. In over 30 years we have always kept our guarantee of anonymity.”
If you have any information please contact our charity anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through our anonymous online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
