West Yorkshire: £10,000 reward over murder of retired merchant navy captain

We are appealing for information after the murder of Leonard Farrar, 18 years ago. The retired merchant navy captain was found dead in the hallway of his home on Cardinal Road, Beeston on 4 May 2002.

The pensioner, who would have turned 90 years old last week, had been stabbed multiple times.

Leonard was seen alive by a neighbour in his garden at about 11.30pm on Thursday 2 May (the day of local elections). That was the last known sighting of Leonard except by the killer.

Despite extensive enquiries and appeals over the years, no one has ever been charged with his murder.

Our charity is supporting officers investigating this case by offering a reward and appealing for anonymous information.

***Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £10,000 for information the charity exclusively receives – either online or via freephone 0800 555 111 - that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for Leonard Farrar’s murder***

“This poor gentleman’s life was cruelly ended by a brutal attack that happened in the one place where he should have felt safe - in his own home. His family are still desperate for answers as to who was responsible, which is why our charity is keen to hear anonymously from anyone with information.

“It’s shocking to think that no one has been held to account for what they did to Leonard. No one deserves protection for murder and we believe someone out there will have suspicions or know exactly who attacked Leonard.

“Our charity, independent of the police, is keen to hear from people about what happened. We know that some people feel unable to speak directly to the authorities, which is why Crimestoppers is here to help.

“We promise, as we have done to millions of people who have trusted us with their crime information over the decades, that you will stay completely anonymous. No one will ever know you contacted us and you’ll be doing the right thing and could be helping Leonard’s family see justice.

“You can speak to us 100% anonymously by calling our UK Contact Centre which is open 24/7 on freephone 0800 555 111 or you can use our simple and secure anonymous online form. Your information could help to keep communities safe from the harm caused by gun crime.”
