Greenwich racist graffiti rise prompts our appeal for information

Cash reward of up to £1,000 pledged to help catch whoever is behind spate of hateful graffiti

The Royal Borough of Greenwich has a worldwide reputation for its place in standardising international time and for its historic landmarks and treasures. It also boasts a vibrant and diverse community.

However, over the past year, the south-east London borough has seen a rise in hateful, racist graffiti. The perpetrator is affiliating themselves with a far right-wing group and is using the tag NF. Graffiti is targeted on street furniture, public walls and residential fencing. This includes roads and streets leading up to and around the A2, such as on public underpasses.

This is not only incredibly disturbing for local residents and the wider community, but is also a hate crime.

Following discussions with the Council and local police, we are pledging to pay up to £1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and charge of the person or people involved in this crime.

“The Royal Borough of Greenwich like the rest of London and the UK, will not tolerate hurtful, racist and bigoted graffiti appearing in public areas and spaces of the borough. We take this very seriously and are determined to help find out who is involved so that we can put a stop to whoever is writing these shocking, hateful messages.

“Racist graffiti is illegal and is designed to scare and intimidate and stir up racial hatred. But we know how important community cohesion is which is why I’m urging anyone with information who may not want to speak directly to the police to remember that Crimestoppers, as a charity, is here to help. You do have options.

“We never take personal details and no one will ever know you contacted us. Each and every day thousands of people trust Crimestoppers with their crime information, safe in the knowledge that they will stay 100% anonymous. Always. So if you have suspicions or are certain who may be responsible, please tell our charity what you know.
