Scotland: East Ayrshire deliberate fires prompts £3,000 reward

Crimestoppers Scotland is offering a reward and appealing for anonymous information in connection with a spate of dangerous wilful fire-raising incidents in the village of Dalrymple, East Ayrshire.

The attacks occurred between July 2019 and December 2020 and have caused concern and distress to local residents. They have included, more recently, a Land Rover parked on the drive of a house in Glebe Avenue being set alight in the middle of the night on Monday, 14 December. A month earlier (22 November), a couple who were sleeping awoke to find their Volvo and Mercedes had been torched just feet from their front door. To date there has been around £500,000 worth of damage caused.

Our charity believes that there may be people in the local community who know or have suspicions about who is behind these reckless and irresponsible attacks.

In October last year, a 72-year-old man was reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with the initial eight incidents. Officers continue to carry out enquiries into these fires to discover the full circumstances.

There have since been two further, near identical, crimes committed and these are still under active investigation.

We are supporting police and the community by encouraging anyone who prefers to stay anonymous, to contact us with information.

***Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £3,000 for anonymous information we exclusively receive online or via freephone 0800 555 111 - that leads to the conviction of the person or people responsible for the series of recent wilful fire-raising incidents in Dalrymple, East Ayrshire***

NOTE: This offer is not ‘per incident’ - the maximum total sum is capped at £3,000.

“The risk to life from these appalling incidents means we urgently need anyone with information to come forward before someone is seriously hurt. Our charity supports police by passing on anonymous information that helps keep people and communities safe from harm. We are urgently appealing for anyone who knows or suspects who may be behind these attacks to do the right thing. Hence why we are putting up a reward of up to £3,000 for information given anonymously to Crimestoppers that leads to the conviction of those responsible.

“I must stress that when we say everyone who contacts us stays 100% anonymous, we mean it. Since we began in the late 1980s, our charity has always kept its cast-iron guarantee to the hundreds of thousands of Scots who have trusted us with their anonymous information over the years.

“Please help us to help you by telling us, completely anonymously, what you know. You can talk to us by calling our UK Contact Centre which is open 24/7 on freephone 0800 555 111 or you can use our easy and secure anonymous online form.

“We know it can be difficult to speak up about crime, especially if it’s about someone you know. Please remember, your information could save lives and stop others from facing distress and harm.”
Angela Parker, National Manager for Scotland
