Looking after our health service

Teaming up with NHS Counter Fraud Authority to help fight fraud across England

The NHS Counter Fraud Authority (NHSCFA) is a new organisation tasked to lead the fight against fraud, bribery and corruption in the NHS and the wider health service.

Focused entirely on counter fraud work, the NHSCFA is independent from other NHS bodies and directly accountable to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

The NHSCFA has partnered up with Crimestoppers to provide a 24-hour fraud reporting hotline. Whether you are a member of the public, an NHS employee, a contractor, a supplier, or anyone else, you can report concerns about fraud in the NHS by calling 0800 028 40 60.

For the launch of the reporting line we also worked with the NHSCFA and the DHSC on an awareness campaign to educate NHS staff and the public on the importance of contacting us with fraud-related information.

Objective

To raise awareness of fraud, bribery and corruption within the NHS and drive information of fraud-related crimes to our integrity lines.

Action

  • We set up a dedicated line for those with information to call, and an online form via which information can be sent to us electronically.  100% anonymously. Always.
  • Using a two-pronged approach, we ran a digital campaign on Facebook and Twitter, while furnishing the NHSCFA with a dedicated asset pack to use in its own communications.

Deliverables

  • Dedicated integrity lines

  • Five different digital assets

  • Digital advertising through organic social media posts

  • Paid social media activity (Facebook & LinkedIn)

  • Dedicated campaign homepage

Outcome

  • Organic social media impressions: 162,177
  • Press reach: 4,500
  • Year on Year growth of calls and contact forms: 46%

What the NHSCFA had to say about working with Crimestoppers:

“We look forward to working in partnership with Crimestoppers to ensure NHS staff and the public are able to report fraud, bribery and corruption to a trusted and recognised charity with 100% anonymity. If NHS staff encounter something suspicious it can be hard for them to take the next step to report it.

"With Crimestoppers’ anonymous reporting service, we can give those with information the confidence to speak up.”
