Stamping out scams

Working with the Post Office to eliminate scams that target their customers.

The Post Office has more than 11,500 stores around the UK and has served the public for more than 370 years.

In 2016 and 2017, the Post Office asked for our help to raise awareness of scams targeting older people. We worked together to bring the dangers to light and reassure Post Office customers that they are not alone.

Objective

To raise awareness of scams targeting older and vulnerable people.

Action

We ran a marketing campaign over 4 weeks, combining traditional and digital advertising. We also collaborated with AgeUK and Trading Standards to extend the reach of our awareness message.

Deliverables

  • Offline advertising on billboards, ad vans and inside GP surgeries
  • Digital advertising through organic and paid social media posts
  • Online banner advertising
  • Regional press activity
  • Dedicated campaign homepage

What they had to say:

"Post Office and Crimestoppers have been in partnership for the last five years. We work together to deliver public awareness campaigns on scams targeting the people at the heart of the community who we feel a duty to protect. To date we have campaigned on scams in 4 regions of the UK and look forward to continuing this vital work.

We use Crimestoppers’ anonymous reporting service to ask local communities for information on crimes perpetrated against our business, such as burglaries, robberies and ATM attacks. The use of social media in these campaigns is key, allowing us to react and deploy messaging in a short space of time. We also utilise Crimestoppers rewards mechanism, which enables us to offer a financial incentive for information leading to the successful arrest and conviction of offenders.

The partnership enables us to actively demonstrate our commitment to combatting crime and protecting our staff and customers in the communities in which we operate.
Crimestoppers' knowledge and professionalism in regards to both integrity services and campaigns has been of great value. "
